Growing Children Healthier, Stronger, Wiser, and Independent

My Educational Philosophy

Detria A. Morrison

December  2007

My educational philosophy is based on the conviction that any young child must be surrounded in an environment that fosters, love, encouragement, age appropriate development and play as a strong foundation.

I believe that children need preparation, guidance, support and a caring individual and healthy environment to help them thrive and succeed in their future endeavors. We aught to supply children with as much love and understanding as possible at the same time making sure the appropriate things are put in place according to their age and readiness.

Children are carefree and should be able to learn the basics of life through play and freedom. As they develop though their stages there should be a wealth of materials, and tangible objects for their growth and their independence. There should also be support for their large and fine motor development, communication/literacy development, social skills, cognitive development, and creative expression.

I believe that the family is the first source of guidance and support for their children, and that the care- giver is the secondary source, but no less important. As a team families and caregivers should work together for the common good and interest of the children to assure that the goals of growing up healthy, strong, and independent are met.

I strongly support that children should be all inclusive regardless of race, age, sex, and exceptionalities, and or disabilities. A childcare program should amplify and accept the different cultures of our society, and the different life styles of each family.
